My first market stand!

Yesterday I had a stand at the Hawkesbury Harvest Farmers and Fine Food market at Castle Hill showground.  It was awesome!

I was able to meet lots of wonderful people including some of the stall holders themselves.  The man from the coffee stand gave me a welcome gift of a soy chai latte (I’m off coffee at the moment!).

Some of the people I chatted to had health issues such as fertility, gut problems and being overweight.  One young woman was about to head to Paris for her 21st birthday and wanted some advice on how to avoid reacting to foods while at the same time, not missing out on everything Paris has to offer!  I suggested she take some digestive herbs and a good quality probiotic and she should be fine!

I met a former Usana employee, saw an acquaintance and his son, chatted with the Thermomix representative and overall, had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

Many people who attend the markets go there for their bacon and egg roll fix!  Lots and lots of people enjoying the coffee, pastries and other yummy comfort or celebratory foods.  I think if we all enjoyed these sugary, wheat treats only once a fortnight when the market is on, we’d all be a lot healthier.  As it was I saw many overweight people or those who looked like they might be in pain or have some kind of complaint.

Nevertheless, it did not dull my enjoyment in hanging out at a genuinely great place to be.  The market organisers are very committed to promoting the local fruit and vegetable growers and I felt privileged to be a part of it.  I hope to be back there next month.
