Last week I wrote about symptoms and how our soul uses the language of the body to bypass our pesky mind (and my nausea and dizziness and what that meant!). I found this awesome article which went into this in more detail should you want to learn more.
Today I am feeling much better, thank you. In fact I know healing occurred last week because my lower back pain cleared up and my hot flushes have completely stopped! Go figure!
You know, there is a difference between symptom suppression (common in our drug culture) and healing. We advocate a pill for every ill. Got a headache? Take Panadol. Period pain? Take Naprosin. Joint Pain? Advil. Anger? Alcohol. Loneliness? Chocolate. Resignation? Sugar. Alienation? Marijuana. Hopelessness? Heroine…
We medicate our symptoms and we medicate our pain, even in naturopathic medicine these days!
But, it’s like putting a bandaid over your engine light on the dashboard!
Like my client last year who drank every night because, in her words, my husband is on the Spectrum (ie autism) and so are my kids and that’s why we all eat dinner in different rooms at different times! No wonder she’s lonely (and angry).
But healing is different. When you heal, the whole body heals. Healing accepts symptoms as messages that all is not well. Healing kindly acknowledges the inconvenience of a symptom and asks “what do I need to do differently?” Healing expects you to pay attention, demands it! Healing guides you towards your best self, finding joy and full expression of who you really are.
If you want your healing wake up call to be a whisper, then start listening to your body now. Take some little actions towards your goals. Learn to be still. Do yoga or guided visualisation. Tiny steps will do.
Much love
Brenda
