Leaky Gut Syndrome

  • Is your gut as leaky as a net?
    • Do you get gut symptoms, skin symptoms or brain symptoms that you can’t explain?
    • Have you been on heaps of antibiotics?

If you have leaky gut syndrome then regardless of the quality of your food or supplements, you will not absorb your nutrients efficiently.

And, here’s the thing!  Correcting leaky gut is relatively simple but not all that easy!  To correct leaky gut you need to make changes.  Here are some of them:

Stress Management
You must make an effort to reduce or manage stress in your life.  TV does not do it.  Alcohol does not do it.  Think of running, walking in the bush, yoga, Tai Chi, meditation, counselling. Stress management is an active process.  It does not happen passively.

Making Sacrifices
We need to learn that in order to obtain optimum health and resolve illness we must sacrifice.  If we are not prepared to make a sacrifice and want to bargain it will never work.  It may be as simple as giving up one or two or our favourite foods or as big as a complete lifestyle or work change.

Rebalancing gut bacteria is essential.  Along with live bacteria (probiotics), I recommend reducing, at least for a while, gluten and diary (common irritants), drinking alkaline and filtered water, taking prebiotics (the food good bacteria feed on) and herbs that help kill “bad” gut bacteria such as turmeric.

The above suggestions administered consistently and with perseverance may well be enough.  If you’re finding it difficult or not getting the results you want then you may well benefit from seeing a naturopath experienced in treating this problem and who can prescribe specific remedies to help resolve the condition.
