The truth is that being overweight is the symptom, not the cause; it’s the consequence, not the action or, to use a familiar quote, it’s the horse that has bolted, not the gate that someone left open! Trying to “fix” consequences never works.
So what are some of the possible causes?
Stress
The biochemical result of poorly management stress is elevated cortisol. This alone can lead to unhealthy weight gain.
Poor Diet
Stress and poor diet can be linked as it is often when we’re stressed that we care less about what we eat and reach for the quick fix.
Insulin Resistance
Insulin levels rise and stay high when the majority of our diet is processed foods. These foods contain unhealthy fats and carbohydrates and lack the proper nutrients the body needs.
Thyroid
Low thyroid function means low metabolism. The thyroid hormones are sensitive to stress and poor liver function means poor conversion to the active form of these hormones. Hypothyroidism is also one of the most common undiagnosed conditions of the 21st century.
Incorrect Thoughts
Lack of self awareness and unconscious thinking will give you random results.
Poor Self Esteem
Seeing yourself as less than who you really are generates a mindset where your level of self care is low. Making yourself unimportant does not attract a healthy weight mindset.
These are just some of the factors that need to be taken into consideration when dealing with weight management.
