Don’t be Afraid of Viruses

I’m in an evangelical mood and want to talk about viruses…

… I want to say, “Don’t be afraid”, but I know there are vested interests determined to fuel the fire of fear. I don’t want to listen to the news any more because I can hear the message – be afraid, be very afraid!

… I want to say “Don’t let a tiny little virus be the enemy”, but our Western system of medicine is all about war. Everything is a battle that we need a nuclear weapon to win. I know there is a higher truth than this.

… I want to say “Be curious instead of being afraid” so you’re not being manipulated into doing things that are not good for your health BECAUSE HEALTH IS EVERYTHING. Without it we’re dead as a species. We desperately need curious, critical thinking right NOW!

… I want to say “Even viruses have a purpose” so I can teach you the naturopathic perspective on illness which is about love and honour and respect for our bodies and the challenges they encounter, like infections.

The gentle, Earth medicine perspective on pathogens like viruses, bacteria and fungus is they too, like all life on the planet, have a part to play in the orchestration of life. They keep us clean, feeding on the toxins and waste in our bodies, protecting us from “autointoxication” and ultimately death. When we clean up our diet and our bodies, infections rarely occur.

… I want to say “It’s time to wake up”.

At around 45, we commence our midlife rite of passage (descent into the underworld) to emerge a few years later as fully grown up, responsible adults. If we’re 50 or older, we are the leaders now, it’s time to let go of our complaints and victimhood. It’s time to reclaim responsibility for our lives. It’s time to stop blaming a virus (or anything else) for our discomfort and to discover the silver linings desperately waiting for us.

Who knows, this virus could change your entire life for the better, if you allow it.

IN SUMMARY

This tiny little virus is actually helping us wake up, clean up, grow up and show up!

Let’s respect it but not be afraid of it.
